SPX and TCJ

So a bunch of the CCS crew got featured in the new Comics Journal, issue 293. There's a three page preview of Only Skin 3 and great comics by Dane Martin, Chuck Forsman, Alex Kim and a lot of other members of the graduating class of 08.

SPX was a lot of fun. Super congrats to Chuck for taking home two bricks (ignatz awards) for his awesome series Snake Oil. The rest of the show was kind of a blur, and I'm just starting to catch up on reading comics from the event - for now I'll say that Theo Ellsworth's Capacity and Nate Powell's Swallow Me Whole are completely awesome and worth picking up. Souvlaki Circus was another cool find (originally pointed out to me by Chuck, I think) - a bizarre, charming book of drawings that do tell a loose narrative. The drawings are amazing.

As usual I didn't take many pictures myself, but Joe has his usual nice wrap-up here and here and D&Q has something terrifying here.

SPX this weekend

Well, SPX is here, seemingly insanely early, but it's here. The image above is one I screen printed, with the help and advice of studio-dawg Alex Kim, who will be debuting his Xeric-winning graphic novel Wall City at the show. I'll have screen prints for sale, along with issues 1-3 of Only Skin. We'll be at the Sundays table, selling Sundays 2 and some other goodies.

Also at our table will be good friends Joe Lambert, who is proud papa/contributor to Best American Comics 2008 and Chuck McBuck Forsman who has been nominated for three Ignatz awards for his exceptional series Snake Oil.
