We're all gonna be movie stars

So, Tara Wray, writer/director of Manhattan, Kansas, is making a documentary about The Center for Cartoon Studies. Here's the trailer.

The back of my head appears briefly, see if you can spot it! Wee! Seriously, it's got good talking stuff from Steve Bissette and James Sturm that show why they power CCS to such unfettered greatness. Unfettered, I say.

C is for Color.

cassie02colorweb

So, in the interest of keeping updates rolling, here's another color page from Only Skin #1. Page 2, actually.

Mostly I've been focusing on writing the last few weeks. I pencilled four pages of a new story, but I think I'm scrapping it and leaving out of the Only Skin universe and saving it for later. Right now I will focus on art corrections and book production aspects of Only Skin #1.

So I finally finished the first Cassie and Clay story. Here are two pages of it, but you'll have to wait until MoCCA to see the whole thing. HA!

I Know Joe Kimpel Mini Comics RELAUNCH!

The good folks at I Know Joe Kimpel have just completed a major relaunch and redesign. This is cool because they added me in the CCS Class of 08 category. Right now you can only get the Chimaera anthology I worked on last year there. But they'll soon be carrying copies of Only Skin #1, as well as the Sundays Anthology I'm working on with some other CCSers.

I Know Joe Kimpel aims to be the premier mini comics site for CCS and since they already feature one Ignatz winner and a couple of Xeric winners, it's pretty much just a damn good mini comics site. Worth checking out. They're adding a blog which will allow peeps to stay up on all the White River comics action. I'll write for that blog occassionally, too.

Bookmark'em.

Also, I finished inking that pesky story from Only Skin #1, but I don't have the strength to scan it right this instant. I'm trying to finish up the final story for the first issue before the end of school. Then, a bevy of corrections and the real deal will debut at MoCCA in June. Then I'm going on vacation in Montreal for a month. No, seriously.

So, I'm thinking of making a full color version of Only Skin #1 for MoCCA to show to the various illuminaries. Anyone who has any comments/advice about the color, your comments would be welcome. I'm really opposed to highlighting and I like the idea of flat colors. Though I don't know if that means I should limit my palette. I think I am using a pretty limited palette of subdued colors, but again, any feedback is appreciated.

Also, this page is a re-done version of the first page from the first story of the book. I'm working on final inks right now, which I hope to finish this week.

So, here's a rarity for my stuff - color. This is kind of a mock up of the cover I intend to do for my mini comic for MoCCA. I am submitting the first 20pp of the book to First Second for the chance to win a one week internship through CCS. The competition is stiff, but it was fun to do color anyway.

Bissette mentioned me on his blog!

...Calling me an ink-slinger, which I think is good...
  • Here's the link.

  • He also mentioned a bunch of other fellow CCSers who have nifty sites as well.

People who came to my blog today from Steve's blog are now reeling. More pages will be coming next week as I finish the "Star's Hollow" story, I'm finishing the pencils right now, but you aren't allowed to see those.
